How to use your own keys

Bring a free SerpApi key and a Gemini API key from Google AI Studio so ShopThisRoom can search and restyle using your quotas. Keys stay in this browser only.

    Create a SerpApi key

    1. Open serpapi.com and create a free account (no credit card required on the free plan).
    2. After sign-up, open Your AccountAPI Key and copy the private key.
    3. The free plan includes 250 successful searches per month (no credit card). A typical room scan uses a few Lens or Shopping searches, so that is roughly 60 scans a month. Our Test button uses the Account API, which does not spend a search credit.

    Create a Gemini API key

    1. Open Google AI Studio and sign in with your Google account.
    2. Click Get API key (or Create API key), pick or create a Google Cloud project, and copy the key.
    3. Free-tier Gemini limits vary by model (for example Flash models often allow a small number of requests per day; Flash-Lite is higher). One detection call per scan. Check your live quotas in AI Studio, and set a spending cap in Google Cloud Billing if you enable paid usage.

    Add and test them here

    1. Go to Your API keys.
    2. Paste each key and press Test & save.
    3. When saved, the UI shows only the last four characters (for example ••••ab12). Scan and Restyle will show a small “Using your key” note.

    Remove or rotate

    Use Remove on the settings page to delete a key from this browser. If you think a key leaked, revoke it at the provider and create a new one, then Test & save again.

Tips

  • Prefer the free tiers while you try ShopThisRoom with friends.
  • Set a Google Cloud spending cap before enabling billing on a Gemini project.
  • Keys never leave this device except as HTTPS headers on your own requests. We do not store them in our database.
Open Your API keys
